Take a girl like you soundtrack
Cautious in interviews, authors tend to reveal in their diaries or letters their true view of their work. And in this year's The Letters Of Kingsley Amis, we can follow the gestation and reception of the novel now adapted for television: Take A Girl Like You, a story of male erotic offence and female sexual defence in the 50s. In , in the early stages of writing, Amis tells Philip Larkin that he has "devised a character who can say more of what I think than any previous". This is intriguingly candid as the narrative-driving chap - Patrick Standish - is a remorseless philanderer who treats a provincial virgin, Jenny Bunn, like ground to be seized in a war. In , he deals with objections from his American publisher to the novel's tone.SEE VIDEO BY TOPIC: Alex Greenwald - For A Girl Like You. ( Unicorn Store Soundtrack )

Take A Girl Like You (1970)
Reviewed in the United States on September 12, Although this is a wonderful transfer for the Columbia Screen Classics MOD edition, there had a been a Reg 2 United Kingdom edition which was cheaper and quite good, but I am very happy to have the Reg. Hayley Mills shows what a great actress she is by playing this role not as typical Hayley Mills vehicle as she is more somber, but right on the mark just the same.
It is a more adult role for her than even her breakout adult roles in her Boulting Brothers' films she was touted as being an adult. This is based on a Kingsley Amis novel, and is some what dreary in the British mode of films of their morals and mores. She effectively plays a girl still guarding her virginity in the swinging early seventies, and suitors who are enamored by her include Oliver Reed and Noel Harrison thankfully in a more sizable role than I've seen him have after "The Girl from U.
The great Stanley Myers composed the score which features the title song sung by the Foundations and several other notable songs. Sheila Hancock and John Bird are featured in the cast. Produced by Hal E. Chester and directed by Jonathan Miller, rated R, color. I am not familiar with this Amis book, but the script is by George Melly provides a lot of fun.
Not exactly my favorite Hayley Mills film, as are most of them, but still appealing. Top critical review. Reviewed in the United States on June 2, Hayley Mills plays Jenny, a new school teacher who meets Patrick Oliver Reed and spends the rest of the movie fighting him off. He tries every line in the book to try to get her into bed, but she'll have none of it. Oliver Reed is utterly repulsive and cringe-worthy as the lecherous man; he's way too old and looks like he wants to eat poor little Hayley.
She, in turn, is quite sweet and beautiful and her ability to tolerate Reed baffled me. Noel Harrison plays a slimy, rich pal who is also after Hayley.
There isn't much plot except the constant will-she, won't she, set amid the free spirited life of London, in There's a reason this is often overlooked; it's a bad movie. Sort by. Top rated Most recent Top rated.

What a warm and witty movie! I seen this film when I graduated high school, and that summer of 69, it was one of my favorite movies. In fact, there were several of us who went and seen it over and over when it hit the drive-in movies. Hayley, as an adult, is just as adorable as she was when she was a child star for Disney, and makes this movie a delight.
It's fast paced, funny, dramatic, and has a little element of everything that a wonderful Hayley Mills' film can offer. Oliver Reed and Noel Harrison are both good as the confirmed bachelors after Hayley's affection. The title song and other songs by the British classic rock group The Foundations adds another joyful element to this movie. I have the soundtrack LP, and wish they would release it on cd.
Whether you're a Hayley Mill's fan or just like those swinging 60's and 70's fun movies, then this movie is a must for your collection. There should be a copy in every one of Hayley's fan's collection! Hopefully, this is the beginning of a trend to release more of her wonderful British films that are rarely seen in the U.
Thank you Amazon and Sony for making this wonderful film available in the U. There was a problem loading comments right now. Showing 0 comments. Sort by: Newest Oldest. One person found this helpful. Haley Mills fans will be delighted. Excellent movie! Haley Mills fans will be delighted! Cute movie..
It is another movies with Hayley Mills base on a young teacher had idea about love and marriage had an idea about couple at odd I think the less I say do not wanted to upset the real story. Kingsley Amis's sharply observed and bitingly funny novel of heterosexual relations at a time of extreme cultural change is unwisely moved well into the "swinging 60s" in this screen adaptation. The results are tepid, unconvincing, and disappointingly smarmy and sexist.
Every change from Amis - and there are many, both great and small - is a step in the wrong direction, and the result feels dated and confused. That it is at all bearable is due to Hayley Mills's sincerity as Jenny Bunn, the "girl" of the title; Sheila Hancock Martha and Penelope Keith a cameo as a poll worker also provide moments of enjoyment. In , the BBC got it right with an excellent 3-part TV film set firmly in the right period and with the right music!
It's long overdue for release on DVD. Even though it's a bit clunky, I enjoyed this version better than the new re-make. I just didn't like this movie. It was borrowing and the ending was discussing. I just didn't get it. Was this Hayley Mills coming out movie. I don't like movies with people have sex for no reason with the wrong guy.
The first time should be special and with someone you love what a waste.. Well, how's about a review of the actual product pictured on this page, which isn't a DVD or a VHS but a little thing called a Blu-ray.
I'm not going to bore you how when I was a wee laddie I saw this film and what an impact it had on me I did not see this when it came out and I hate to tell you not many did , or that I'm a huge Hayley fan I am but this one put me off it didn't.
You can read all the other reviews that begin with sentences like, "I seen this movie" to find out the plot, if you need to know that. What I can tell you is the transfer is excellent and up to Sony's usual high standards, as is the authoring by Twilight Time.
It's not a great movie, but it has Hayley at her loveliest she's still lovely, as a matter of fact , but it also has Oliver Reed, who really is quite disgusting to watch as he paws our Hayley over and over and over again. Noel Harrison was never a very good actor and that proves to be the case here. But Mills's character is a virgin and doesn't want to give that up too easily. The ending is a bit strange. While this movie received quite a few low reviews, I think it was funny and witty and even a little true Need customer service?

If I'd like to have my breakfast hot Madame Carpe will make me pay, And I have to fetch the eggs myself And the barn's a mile away. It's cold and wet But still I get an omelet on my plate, But in my head I'm back in bed Snuggled up and sleeping late. If I want some eggs I ring the bell And the maid comes running in, And she serves them on a silver tray And she brings the cookie tin. And while I eat she rubs my feet And strolling minstrels play, But I'd rather be in my library Reading science books all day. I'm just like you you are?

The estimable Jonathan Miller who prefers his knighthood's 'Sir' socially omitted is perhaps best known as a theatre director, famous for being trained as a neurologist in the 50s and then suddenly diverting his career into comedy. As you do. He went on to produce television arts programmes and helm huge stage productions, both plays and operas. So a significant percentage of his vast creative output remains in the memories of those lucky enough to have seen these productions.
